Trainer Spotlight: West College Scotland

This week, we are featuring West College Scotland - a further and higher education college. They pride themselves on being modern, ambitious and innovative with their ethos being apply, learn, achieve. They currently have over 70 courses listed with us on the Skillseeder website!


On the 1st August 2013 Clydebank college, Reid Kerr college in Paisley and James Watt College in Greenock merged together to become West College Scotland. They are one of the biggest educational institutions in the country with 21,500 students and 1,200 members of staff.

Who can join?

Anyone! At West college Scotland there are several ways you can learn with them making it a super accessible college. There are completely online courses meaning that you fit it around your current commitments. They have four different campuses in west Scotland; Greenock, Clydebank, Waterfront, Paisley, and they are all easily accessible via public transport. If you are looking to join the college from a different part of the country, they have procedures in place to help you find suitable accommodations once you have been accepted onto a course.


Types of Study As well as their extensive list of courses, there are also various options of study to suit your needs. You can study full-time, part-time, in the evening and online. This is designed to help students get a job, keep a job, advance their career opportunities, as well as help business with their training needs.

Health & Wellbeing

West College Scotland has the wellbeing of the community at the heart of what they do. They want to ensure that both students and staff thrive under their environment which is why they have Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategies in place.


With innovation being a focus of the college, they have created a digital strategy to ensure that they are able to provide the vest best educational experience for their students. They are aware that since the Covid-19 Pandemic, there has been a shift in approach to how learning/training is delivered. The implementation of their digital strategy resulted in the college winning both the Herald’s ‘Diversity Award’ and ‘Digital Transformation Award’ last year. If you are interested in becoming a West College Scotland student, they provide several support services to help make your experience as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. Some of their services are:

· Free counselling

· Enabling services for those who have addition support needs, disability or a specific learning difficulty

· Gies a break wellbeing Café

· Help for young carers and unpaid carers

· Free sanitary products at all their campus locations
